The City Calls

.: Interview| Ben Dover

After hearing about his new single release 'England Expects', I knew I had to have a chat of my own with 'Ben Dover'... Read on!

How's life in Ben Dover's world at the moment?

Still keeping very busy right now. Finally getting a bit more mainstream stuff coming in. I’ve just started shooting a comedy ‘mockumentry’ called ‘On the Ropes’ which will hopefully lead on to other things, and of course all the promotion for the World Cup project is very exciting.

So, how has the new single been received so far?

Well good and bad, as is to be expected I suppose. I’m pleased with it because at least we did an original song. Most of the other more high profile records have been covers of old songs, so I’m quite pleased we took that route. There was always going to be the musical snobs who were going to hate it on principal, but we’ve had some really positive reviews as well. It was supposed to be a bit of cheesy 80’s singalong fun, and i think we definitely achieved that. There was no point in trying to be ‘credible’ when we first thought of doing it. Everyone always goes on about the ‘World in Motion’ world cup record being the best ever, but they only say that because it was done by New Order who for some reason are thought of as a serious credible band. If that record had been done by someone like Black Lace, everyone would have said  it was shit! I mean John Barnes rapping? Puhleese!

How do you think people will react to the video for your single?

Well of course the video was always going to be our USP for this project! Can’t think why!! The reaction has been great which isn’t surprising considering  the gorgeous girls who are in it. It’s a good old singalong football song with some hot chicks in the video. What else do you need?

How does it feel to be experiencing different career paths; the latest being music?

Well it was great to be back in the studio after so many years. The biggest surprise was how much the recording technology has changed since the days when I was a full time musician. It’s definitely something I'd like to do more of in the future.

If you had to pick one path: be it film, music or directing for the rest of your career, which would you choose?

Film definitely. It’s amazing being on a TV or film set surrounded by all these incredibly talented people.

Having starred in and directed so many adult films, can you name a favourite?

Forbidden Desires, a film I made for Private.

Tell me what it really takes to become a brilliant adult film actor or actress?

Confidence in yourself, and a solid ego!

You seem to have a real cheeky charm, does that work to your advantage with the industries you work in?

Yes I think people acknowledge that confidence in oneself is an advantage in any branch of show business.

If you were able to star in a film with any famous actor, who would it be?

Adam Sandler, Jack Black, Keifer Sutherland.

What film genre is your favourite (apart from adult of course)?

Comedy.

If you could have a Ben Dover look-a-like, would you send them to parties you didn't fancy attending?

Well not sure I think if there was any Ben Dover look-a-like out there the poor chap would  probably be spending most of his time in therapy rather than attending parties on my behalf!

After a wild night out, who would you least like to wake up to the next day?

Katie ‘Jordan’ Price! Ugghh!!

Is there anything you would like to add?

A big thank you to everyone who’s supported our World Cup record, and let’s hope England go out there and show the world how it’s done by bringing the cup home again!!!
