We had a chin-wag with Groundsman, who's Album Review can be found
HERE!
Read on to see what he had to say...
How is 2009 going for Groundsman?
2009 has been a big year so far for "Groundsman",with the release of
the album (Dig my earth) in May and non stop networking and
promotion for it ever since. Also 2 big gigs in August will help to
spread the word and let people hear some of the tracks live. Lots of
new tracks are being produced too, so a busy time in my studio
awaits.
Have you got anything exciting coming up this year?
As I mentioned, lots of new tracks are in development and they are
going to be massive. My sound and style is evolving and getting
better all the time, so it feels like each track is sounding sweeter
than the last. There will also be a lot more involvement with radio
and distribution outlets around the world, so it will be exciting to
see how my sound is received in other countries (Hong kong,US,Au.)
We see your a funky one man band, have you thought about adding
any other members?
Over the years I have been in several different bands, but something
always seems to come along that scuppers the plans (drummers having
kids, singers mums dying etc etc).So in 1999 I decided that I needed
to go solo if I was going to move forward. It was the best thing I
could have done, because it now allows me to work non stop, if I
want to. I have my own studio and record label, so I can do
everything I need to myself. My live show has also evolved into a
much more impressive set, with a laptop and midi synth providing the
cutting edge production.
Can you describe your music in three words?
Ok, I will go for: "Rock dance fusion"
Who would you say has been your biggest influence?
It's a toss up between John Lennon or Jimi Hendrix. (Lennon for my
song writing skills, and Hendrix for my guitar style/sound)
If you could gig anywhere, where would it be?
Well, obviously all the big gigs around the world will be cool
(Wembley,Glasto,Coachella, etc), but I'll say I'd like to play a set,
on the first gig on the Moon.lol. Or Mars, if the moon is fully
booked!
Who would you least like to get stuck in a lift with?
Hmmm, I guess I would hate to be stuck in a lift with any of the
great tyrants (Hitler,Hussien etc),or how about the mythological
"Medusa",that would be awkward because I wouldn't be able to make
eye contact (she'd turn me to stone),whilst making casual
conversation. Mind you, she would probably just hiss at me like a
snake anyway.lol
Have you been sucked into Twitter yet?
I have a twitter account (Groundbob), that is linked to my profile
on "Reverbnation" (a website for musicians and fans). It auto
updates Twitter, whenever I do anything to my profile. I haven't
been sucked in totally yet, but when I go on tour I imagine I'll be
tempted.
What are you listening to mainly at the moment? Who's the latest
thing stuck in your head!
The latest stuff I've listened to were all the "Mercury" nominees,
and I'd say I enjoyed the "Kasabian" album the most. The Mercury
music prize is something I'm determined to get an entry for. This
would be my preferred angle to break through to the mainstream.
Anything you would like to add?
Well I'll add a cheeky plug of the album,"Dig my earth" available on
"itunes""Amazon" etc,and direct from
www.newfoundgroundrecords.com and also check "Groundsman" on
Myspace for free downloads, gig news and new music videos. There is
now a video for "Busted flush", which is really funny and anyone who
likes a good party with their friends, should watch it. Other than
that, see you all soon!
